Welcome to the ARC Daily Connect. We're so glad you're here!
Thoughts for the Day—Slowing Down With the Question
Leah noticed that most of her stressful thoughts arrived quickly: “I messed up again,” “They’re disappointed in me,” “I’ll never get this right.” The thoughts hit so fast that they felt automatic, leaving no space to respond calmly.
The first question—Is it true?—gave her a way to slow down. Instead of reacting immediately, she paused long enough to breathe and look at the thought before believing it. Sometimes she saw that the thought wasn’t true at all. Other times, she realized she didn’t know. Either way, the pause made room for a kinder response.
Neuroscience shows that stressful thoughts trigger the amygdala, the brain’s alarm system. Pausing interrupts this reflex and shifts activity toward the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that weighs evidence and calms the body. A single question can begin this shift.
Not every thought needs an answer. What matters is creating space between the thought and our reaction. Together, we are learning that even in moments of stress, we can pause, breathe, and choose a gentler way forward.
Have an amazing day! SHG

Gratitude
The benefits of gratitude are nearly endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by noticing and reflecting upon what they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have more robust immune systems. What are you grateful for today?
