Welcome to the ARC Daily Connect. We're so glad you're here!
Thoughts for the Day—The Sky and the Clouds
Maya often felt swept away by her thoughts. They would come suddenly, like storms rolling in, filling her mind with noise and urgency. On those days she felt like the thoughts defined her—as though she was the storm itself. Then she learned to imagine them differently. Instead of treating them as solid and permanent, she pictured them as clouds drifting across the sky. Some were heavy, some were light, but none of them stayed forever. Slowly, she realized she wasn’t the clouds. She was the sky—wide, steady, and unchanged by their passing.
This shift in perspective is known in psychology as decentering. It means seeing thoughts as events that come and go, rather than as fixed truths. Research shows that people who practice decentering have lower anxiety, greater resilience, and more flexible thinking. By learning to observe a thought without fusing with it, the brain strengthens networks that support calm and perspective instead of stress and reactivity.
Decentering doesn’t mean pushing thoughts away. It simply means giving them their place. A thought may still appear, but it no longer has the same power to define identity or dictate action. In this way, we move from being overwhelmed by every cloud to resting in the steadiness of the sky.
It can be deeply reassuring to remember that thoughts, like clouds, are temporary. They drift in, and they drift out. And what remains constant is the steady ground of who we are beneath them. Even when the skies feel crowded, we don’t face them alone. Together, we are learning to trust the sky that holds us all.
Have an amazing day! SHG

Gratitude
The benefits of gratitude are nearly endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by noticing and reflecting upon what they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have more robust immune systems. What are you grateful for today?
