Path to Becoming a
FARA Advocate

If you want to end the frustration and grief of not being able to help another person improve their diet, then the Food Addiction Recovery Advocate (FARA) training is for you.

Finally, acquire the skills you need to effectively support yourself and other people while they escape the consequences of processed foods.

People around the world are signing up for the FARA training. People come to FARA when they are frustrated because they’re using all their knowledge to help another person, but the other person is unable to make life-saving changes in their behavior. Learn how knowledge of the dynamics of processed food addiction can inspire another person, allow them to move forward, and resolve diet-related diseases. Finally, put an end to the frustration and grief of watching another person decline into a diet-related disease.

About Joan Ifland Ph.D

Joan Ifland, PhD, MBA, FACN is recognized around the world for her work in recovery from processed foods. She is the lead editor/author of the textbook, Processed Food Addiction: Foundations, Assessment, and Recovery. For her work, she has been named a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. She is considered by many to be the leading expert in protecting against diet-related diseases caused by the compulsive use of processed foods. Her PhD in Addictive Nutrition is from Union Institute and University, her MBA from Stanford University, and BA in Economics and Political Science from Oberlin College. Dr. Ifland has created breakthroughs in recovery from processed foods and suffering from a broad range of mental, emotional, physical, and behavioral disorders. She founded the Addiction Reset Community (ARC), which is the first online immersion program to offer the right level of peer support for remission of intense cravings. She and her team also founded the Remission Optimistic Community (ROC) to bring a broad range of healing modalities for the remission of chronic, ‘incurable’ diseases into remission. Dr. Ifland personally designed the FARA Curriculum. Dr. Ifland was chosen by the Oprah Winfry Network to appear as a food addiction specialist. She has been quoted in the Washington Post, Forbes, US News and World Report, Prevention, Shape, and Martha Steward Wedding Magazine.

What you discover in the FARA training:

  • Startling, fascinating material, which is not provided in any other training.
  • Learning in an easy-to-access live Zoom community of study groups offered over 30 times per week.
  • Your personal assigned training guide and advocate.
  • Freedom from stressors, such as deadlines and exams. Enjoy a gentle but highly effective learning approach.

Specific skills you acquire in FARA Training:

  • So many training programs are not aware of what Clients really need.  Dr. Ifland knows because she’s been working with food-addicted people since 1996.
  • Practitioners are able to hold the attention of Clients while beginning the life-changing process of letting them realize that food addiction was given to them deliberately by the tobacco industry when they took over Kraft, Nabisco, and General Foods in the 1980s.
  • Practitioners learn Motivational Interviewing which has been shown to be more effective at changing behavior than giving directions.
  • Motivational Interviewing relieves the practitioner of the burden of having to come up with the best next step for Clients.
  • Practitioners become fluent in Motivational Interviewing by attending online support groups.  Practitioners easily lift up traumatized Clients and motivate them. Support groups are offered 7 times per day so Trainees easily fit support groups into their schedules
  • Practitioners learn the research showing what leads to success in helping traumatized, food-addicted people.
  • Trainees learn how to use over 20 cutting-edge Handouts. Giving food-addicted Clients accurate guidance could make the difference between success and failure for them. Successful recovery from processed food addiction requires highly focused, well-organized recovery activities.
  • Trainees gain confidence and security that the advice they’re giving is accurate and appropriate for traumatized, food-addicted Clients.
  • Trainees learn how to persuade a Client of the reality and severity of processed food addiction. This opens the door to moving into the right level of care.
  • Practioners learn how show Clients that programs failed because the programs were not comprehensive enough to overcome severe cravings. Freedom from the belief of self-failure, Clients can try again.
  • Trainees learn how to post in social media to pierce the noise of ignorance.  Practitioners avoid the disaster of offering advice that cannot be used by the visitor and worse, sets the visitor up for failure.
  • Trainees learn how to  post in social media to support Members of an online community. This stops the suffering from confusion and loneliness.
  • Trainees have access to the extensive FARA video library. Videos can be shared with anyone.  The videos multiply the effectiveness of Practitioners many times over. Practitioners avoid the frustration of repeating instructions over and over.
  • Trainees learn how to empower Clients to build a food plan that is a great fit for the Client.  Practitioners no longer have to try to manage food plans that the Client doesn’t like or cannot produce. Practitioners avoid the stress of telling Clients what to eat.
  • Practitioners learn to help clients acquire emotional processing skills by watching step-by-step videos over and over again. This is not therapy. It is a practical step-by-step process that clients can develop through repeat exposure to videos.

What you get after Phase I of FARA Training:

  • Phase II. Practice, Practice, Practice!

You will receive ARC Members to care for.  You have new assignments that hone your skills.  After one year, you are FARA Certified.

  • The Influencer Program

Make your voice be heard while earning an income from your efforts. Here are the programs you can participate in and how they pay out.  Advocates keep 70% of the revenue while we use 30% to advertise, register, collect fees, and create payroll. There are no guarantees as to how much you can earn but we run aggressive marketing on Facebook, Google, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.  We have three people on the marketing/social media team who post throughout the week.

Historically, Advocates have created income for themselves slowly by combining the opportunities described below. As Advocates grow their income, they’re able to cut back on the hours they spend in their main job. This can take a year or two, depending on how much time and energy the Advocate has to build programs.

  1.  Short courses. These four-week courses meet once a week. There are dozens of topics Advocates can design into a short course. Currently, Advocates are giving courses in how to stop cravings and overeating; how to use God to recovery, emotional self-care, and how to create a custom food plan. It’s incredibly satisfying to take a group of people and give them the specific skills they need to take care of themselves, defend against harmful business practices, and lead a fulfilling life.

We charge US $50 per course. Advocates take 70% or $35 per student. In our initial launch this week, the four courses we offered were booked by an average of 12-35 students. For 15 students, the course would pay US $525. We give you forms to fill out for your content and promotion. We do the rest. You can run the course again and again.

  1.  Support Subscriptions. We are offering follow-on support subscriptions to the short courses so that people get the long-term care that they actually need. This will be a once-a-week meeting where the Advocate checks people in and through a beautiful communication technique called motivational interviewing, supports them while they develop a path forward that they can follow easily..

We charge US $50 per month for a support subscription. Advocates take 70% or $35 per Member. So for 15 Members, a support subscription would pay US $525 per month.

  1. We offer one-on-one, one-hour consultations.  Advocates have such a wealth of knowledge and expertise that they can successfully work with individuals on complex situations to find a pathway that would lead them to health.

We typically charge US $100 for a private hour. Advocates take 70% or $70 per session.

  1. We offer small daily support groups of five people called Premium Chats. Each person has three minutes to check in Monday through Friday.

We charge US $40 per month per Premium Chat Member. So a Premium Chat of five members would generate $200 per month and Advocates keep $140.

  1. Advocates take care of ARC Members in small written groups and in hosting support groups in the ARC Schedule.

We charge US $59 per month per ARC Member. Your membership group can grow over time as you recruit from your short courses and as we give you Members whom we've recuited from the public. Advocates retain $41 per month. So an Advocate managing a pod of 10 members earns US $410 per month. It can take a year or more to build up to 10 Members depending on how active Advocates are.

Specific benefits to your clients:

When Clients are able to move out of self-blame, they regain confidence, can join an appropriate program and rebuild their lives.

Motivational Interviewing builds self-respect and confidence which forms the foundation for behavior change.

Clients gain a sense of security as they learn how to build on mistakes, recognize wins, and process emotions under the comfort of kindness and understanding.

Clients avoid being hurt by ineffective approaches such as directing, correcting, and blaming.

Clients get specific, science-based information about how to regain control over their behavior so when they take an action, it works.

Clients resolve barriers to change when they learn:

  • What actually happened to them under the Addiction Business Model practiced by the food industry.
  • Why their struggles are not their fault
  • How processed food addiction affects seemingly unrelated aspects of their lives such as education and relationships
  • Why diets, weight-loss, eating-disorders, and therapy programs have not worked
  • Why an immersion recovery program would work

Practitioners learn how to steer Clients away from harmful advice.  This save Clients from losing money and time while avoiding suffering.

Due to cognitive impairment, new Clients of online programs are often very confused about where to go and what to do. Trainees can keep Clients secure, engaged, and supported by knowing how to use social media platforms.

Cognitively-impaired Clients can watch videos from the FARA library over and over until they’ve absorbed new ideas and understand how to act on them. Clients stop harmful behaviors because they gain the skills to stay calm and choose new behaviors.

The food-addicted person is liberated from other people’s extreme ideas and domineering, sometimes abusive insistence that their food plan is the only food plan. Clients money on expensive, ineffective food plans.

Emotional processing skills allow Clients to find calm, Clients can stop emotional eating.

Why we are different (well, actually unique):

  • FARA is entirely based on research.  Dr. Ifland is considered to be the world’s learning authority on how to recover from processed foods.
  • The FARA Training leads to the opportunity to earn an income from making your voice heard.
  • FARA provides overhead so you’re not stuck building websites or figuring out fee collection or building ad campaigns.
  • You have an assigned Advocate to keep you company while you train.
  • You can start helping people on your first day of training as you learn to post in social media about why food struggles are not our fault.
  • The food plan empowerment of Clients is unique.
  • The availability of a surround support community (ARC) for Members is unique in the world. A patent is pending on this recovery system.
  • FARA Training is community-based.  You have over 30 study groups to choose from every week.
  • The Training is self-paced.  If you need more than six months, it’s OK!
  • The Video Library is the original work of Dr. Ifland and cannot be found anywhere else.  You have use of the videos as you like, including the original slides to adapt to your Clients, and to Short-Courses.
  • Dr. Ifland is constantly introducing the latest science through Weekend Workshops.  You’ll never feel stale or bored.
